From My Table: A Five-Minute Breakfast for a Quiet Morning

Hello, my Darlings!

It is a beautiful morning, and I am starting my day by intentionally slowing down.

I opened the blinds and my balcony door to let some fresh air into the room and listen to the birds outside. A few geese flew past while I was standing there, and somehow that felt like the perfect way to begin my morning.

Nothing extraordinary happened. It was simply quiet.

And I think I needed that.

I had actually planned a little for this morning when I went grocery shopping. Since today is my day off, I wanted to make the morning feel like a priority instead of immediately finding something that needed to be done.

Even if that only meant making breakfast.

I will admit that I have gotten into a terrible habit of skipping breakfast, skipping lunch, and eventually eating something much later in the evening. I don’t want that to become my normal anymore.

So I am starting small.

Not with an elaborate morning routine or a long list of things I have to accomplish before noon. Just breakfast, an open balcony door, and a few quiet minutes to myself.

The Five-Minute Granola Bowl

This bowl took me about five minutes to put together.

I considered washing and preparing the fruit the night before, but then I realized that I was already turning breakfast into another task I needed to get ahead of.

That wasn’t the point of this morning.

I used dairy-free Greek-style yogurt as my base and added sliced nectarine and kiwi. Then I sprinkled hemp seeds and granola over the top.

That was it.

Simple, colorful, and surprisingly satisfying.

There is something nice about putting a little care into an ordinary bowl of yogurt instead of eating whatever is quickest while standing in the kitchen.

A Little Something Warm

I also made a small bowl of warm oatmeal with a slice of sourdough toast and butter.

I love oatmeal, although I tend to only eat it during autumn and winter. I’m not exactly sure why. The moment I sense the seasons beginning to change, I naturally start reaching for warmer breakfasts again.

Maybe this bowl of oatmeal was my own quiet acknowledgement that autumn isn’t too far away.

I skipped my morning tea because it is still fairly warm outside. Lately, I’ve been enjoying cold drinks during the day and saving my warm cups of tea for the evening.

The ritual hasn’t disappeared. It has simply shifted with the season.

And perhaps that is what I am learning about slowing down, too.

It doesn’t have to look the same every day.

Mornings like this remind me that taking care of myself doesn’t always require something grand. Sometimes it is simply making a meal, sitting down to eat it, opening the door to listen to the birds, and allowing myself a few minutes where nothing needs to be rushed.

Five minutes to make breakfast.

A few more minutes to enjoy it.

That feels like a good place to start.

I think I may go out later and get my first autumn drink from Starbucks.

A little preview of the season ahead.

Until next time,

Be kind to yourself.

Georgiana
